HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Nebraska Wesleyan men's tennis team went 1-4 on their annual spring break trip to Hilton Head Island from March 11-16 in South Carolina.
NWU defeated Westminster College (Pa.) 7-2 on March 12 for the lone victory of the trip. They lost three matches 9-0 against Gettsyburg College, Greenville University and Berry College (Ga.) and had an 8-1 loss to University of Mount Union.
In the win against Westminster on day two of their trip, the Prairie Wolves won all two of the three doubles matches to get ahead early.
Jared Scherling and
Nathan Seaton won at No. 2 doubles and
Vinh Le and
Cole Lohoefener were 8-4 winners at No. 3 doubles.
The Prairie Wolves took five of the six singles matches to clinch the victory, their second of the 2018-19 season.
Spencer Anderson won 7-5, 6-1 at No. 2 singles, Scherling won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles, Seaton was a 6-4, 1-6, 7-5 winner at No. 4, Le won in 6-1, 6-1 straight sets at No. 5 and
Matt Errett came back to win 5-7, 6-2, 7-5 at No. 6 singles.
Gabriel Sellmer dropped his No. 1 singles match 4-6, 1-6.
Nebraska Wesleyan's only other individual victory came against Mount Union on March 13.
Spencer Anderson won his No. 3 singles match over Zach Teffner 6-4, 4-6, 10-5.
The Prairie Wolves now have a 2-7 overall record.
