CLERMONT, Fla. – Nebraska Wesleyan picked up two more victories on the second day of their spring break trip to Florida. The Prairie Wolves softball team defeated Catholic University 5-2 then closed the day with a 3-1 win over Millsaps College.
The Prairie Wolves are now 5-3 on the season with eight more games scheduled during the trip.
In the opener versus Catholic, NWU surrendered two runs in the top of the 1
st inning to fall behind 2-0. Those would be the only runs allowed by Prairie Wolves pitcher
Kailey Meyer the rest of the game.
NWU scored one run in the bottom of the 1
st inning on an RBI single from
Danelle Snyder. They tied the game at 2-2 on an RBI single from
Morgan Shipley in the bottom of the 2
nd inning.
Snyder led off the 3
rd inning with a solo home run to put the Prairie Wolves ahead for good. Later in the inning,
Alycin Braun was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to allow Meyer to score then Shipley got another RBI single for the final insurance run.
Shipley finished the game 3-4 with two RBI to lead the Prairie Wolves offense. Snyder was 2-4 with her first home run of the year and two RBI. Meyer got the win on the mound allowing seven hits in the complete game victory. She struck out four and walked only one.
Against Millsaps the Prairie Wolves had to rally back again. The Majors scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the 3
rd inning, but that was all they could get against the NWU pitching staff.
Payton Swanson's pinch hit RBI single in the 4
th inning tied the game at 1-1. Snyder plated a run with an RBI double in the 5
th inning to put NWU ahead by one run. They added to their total in the top of the 7
th when
Meredith Poppe got an RBI single to score Savannah Lakin.
Neligh Brown started the game on the mound for NWU going four innings allowing one run on three hits. Meyer pitched the final three innings and was credited with the win to move to 4-2. She did not allow a hit and struck out two.
Alicia Perrien and
Alycin Braun both had two hits to pace the Prairie Wolves offense.
