LINCOLN, Neb. – Bethel College came into Knight Fieldhouse and won a pair of tennis matches over the Nebraska Wesleyan women's and men's programs on Saturday (Feb. 23). Bethel won the women's match 5-4 and took the men's match 7-2.
Bethel had only five players in the women's dual, but they were still able to edge out the Prairie Wolves 5-4. NWU won two doubles matches as Jordyn Fossel and
Madi Hinshaw won at No. 2 doubles and the Prairie Wolves earned a forfeit at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, NWU was able to only win one match besides the forfeit.
Han Le was a 6-2, 6-2 winner of Mallory Meier at No. 4 singles. The most competitive singles match was at the No. 3 spot where Bethel's Erica Ebenkamp won 3-6, 6-4, 10-7 over Kailey Kissler.
In the men's match, the Prairie Wolves won one singles match and one doubles match.
Spencer Anderson was a 6-0, 3-6, 6-3 match at No. 2 singles. He joined up with
Gabriel Sellmer to win 8-6 at No. 1 doubles.
Three of the singles matches were three set thrillers.
Jared Scherling fell 5-7, 7-6, 5-7 to Ryan LaCombe at No. 3 singles and Gabe Johnson of Bethel beat
Nathan Seaton 6-4, 3-6, 6-0 at No. 4 singles.
NWU is now 1-2 to start the spring season.
