U.S. Air Force Academy - NCAA Division I Air Force used their size to overmatch the Nebraska Wesleyan women on Monday night (Dec. 30) at Clune Arena. The Falcons defeated the Prairie Wolves 93-42 in a game that counts on the Air Force record but is exhibition for NWU.
Air Force jumped ahead 36-6 after the first quarter, holding NWU to just 2-11 overall shooting. The 2nd quarter was much more competitive with NWU staying within three points but the lead was 49-16 at halftime. In the second half the Prairie Wolves outshot the Falcons in the 3rd quarter going 5-11 from the field as they went on a 7-0 scoring run during the third.
For the game, the Falcons shot only 39.1 percent from the field, but had twice as many shot attempts. Air Force was 34-87 from the field, compared to 12-43 for NWU. The Falcons forced NWU into 32 total turnovers, scoring 48 points of the turnovers.
The biggest disparity came in rebounding with Air Force holding a 57-27 advantage on the glass. Air Force pulled down 36 offensive rebounds alone, scoring 27 second chance points.
Caitlin Navratil was the lone NWU player to score in double figures finishing with 10 points.
Six players scored in double figures for Air Force, led by Kaelin Immel with a game-high 19 points.
Nebraska Wesleyan returns to American Rivers Conference action on Saturday (Jan. 4) when they travel to Dubuque, Iowa to face Loras College.
