NWU Volleyball to Host American Rivers Tournament Match Tuesday

LINCOLN, Neb. – Nebraska Wesleyan received the No. 4 seed for the 2019 American Rivers Conference Postseason Volleyball Tournament and will host a first round match on Tuesday night (Nov. 4) in Snyder Arena.

The Prairie Wolves will host the No. 5 seed Coe College on Tuesday at 7 pm.  The winner of the NWU-Coe match will advance to the tournament semifinals and face the No. 1 seed Wartburg College on Thursday (Nov. 7) in Waverly, Iowa.

Tuesday marks the third time the Prairie Wolves volleyball team has qualified for the conference tournament over the past four years, but the first time they have hosted a match in the new conference.  It marks the first time NWU has hosted a conference tournament match since 1986 when they were the host school of the NIAC Tournament advancing to the championship match.

Nebraska Wesleyan enters the tournament as one of the hottest teams in the conference having won nine straight matches.  NWU is 19-7 overall, finishing 5-3 in conference play to sit in a three-way tie for third place with Dubuque and Coe.  Dubuque defeated NWU to earn the No. 3 seed, while NWU is the No. 4 seed because of a tiebreaker.

Coe ended the year at 15-17 overall and 5-3 in league play having won their final two matches of the year.

In the first match between the two teams, Nebraska Wesleyan defeated Coe 3-1 on Oct. 25 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
