CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Nebraska Wesleyan women finished their weekend trip to California on Saturday night (Nov. 30) with a 92-54 loss at Pomona-Pitzer on day two of the David Wells Classic.
Pomona-Pitzer (2-4) jumped out to a 10-point first quarter lead then outscored NWU by 15 points in the second quarter to hold a 25-point halftime advantage. The lead was too much for the Prairie Wolves to overcome as they drop to 3-4 overall.
NWU struggled offensively all night long, shooting just 34.5 percent as a team. The Sagehens led the game from start to finish as the defense force the Prairie Wolves into 22 turnovers, turning those turnovers in to 23 points.
For a second straight night the Prairie Wolves struggled rebounding with Pomona-Pitzer holding a 51-28 advantage on the glass. The Sagehens scored 50 points in the paint, compared to only 26 by NWU.
Two players scored in double figures for the Prairie Wolves, led by
Caitlin Navratil with 18 points. Navratil was 6-18 from the floor and 5-6 at the free throw line. She also led the team with eight rebounds, six assists and five steals.
Mikenzie Delgado also reached double figures scoring 11 points making 3-3 from 3-point land.
Four different Pomona-Pitzer players scored in double figures with Amara Chidom leading the way scoring 16 points.
NWU returns home on Wednesday night to host Buena Vista in the American Rivers Conference opener.
