Men's Soccer Plays 12th-Ranked Dutch to 0-0 Tie

LINCOLN, Neb. – Nebraska Wesleyan went toe-to-toe with nationally-ranked Central College on Wednesday night (Oct. 9) in a match that ended in a 0-0 draw late at Abel Stadium in Lincoln.

The Prairie Wolves and 12th-ranked Dutch played to the 0-0 double overtime tie in American Rivers Conference men's soccer action.  NWU moves to 6-3-3 overall and 0-1-1 in A-R-C action with Central going to 10-1-2 overall and 2-0-1 in conference play.

Central College moved up to No. 1 in the regional rankings this week and climbed up to No. 12 in the United Soccer Coaches/DIII rankings. The Prairie Wolves didn't back down and proved that they belong right with the top teams in the conference and region.

Each team had five shots on goal in the marathon match that ended after 11 pm at night on a cool and damp evening in Lincoln.

The Prairie Wolves have been held without a goal in three straight matches, but two of those matches ended in double overtime draws against very talented opposition.

NWU survived Central's late scoring chances when the Dutch had three corner kick opportunities and three shots on goal in the second overtime period.  Goalkeeper Zachary Selph and the Prairie Wolves defenders prevented the Dutch from scoring the game-winner.

Nebraska Wesleyan is back home on Saturday to host Wartburg College at 3 pm.
