LINCOLN, Neb. – A goal in the 2
nd minute by Wartburg College would prove to be the only goal of the match as the Knights came into Abel Stadium and defeated Nebraska Wesleyan 1-0 in American Rivers Conference men's soccer action on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 12).
Nebraska Wesleyan drops to 7
th in the American Rivers Conference standings with a 0-2-1 league record and 6-4-3 overall. Wartbug is now 2-2 in league play and 5-4-2 overall.
The Prairie Wolves offense remains to be a problem as NWU has gone four straight matches without a goal. After scoring 12 goals in a win over Nebraska Christian College on Sept. 27, the Prairie Wolves are still looking for their first goal in the month of October.
NWU has faced tough competition during that stretch going 0-2-2, but the Prairie Wolves will need to get the offense going if they want to get back in the conference race.
Wartburg's goal was scored by Max Slade-Cox just 2:02 into the match. What had the makings of an offensive battle, quickly became a defensive match.
Only eight total shots were taken by the two teams with five for Wartburg and three by Nebraska Wesleyan.
The Prairie Wolves did not have a shot on goal and Wartburg had just two.
Nebraska Wesleyan now prepares to hit the road next week for a pair of conference matches starting on Tuesday at Coe College.
