#24 Duhawks Spoil Soccer Day with 2-1 Victory

LINCOLN, Neb. – Nationally-ranked Loras College came into Abel Stadium and spoiled the men's soccer senior day activities with a 2-1 victory over Nebraska Wesleyan in American Rivers Conference action at Abel Stadium in Lincoln.
 
No. 24 Loras got the game-winning goal in the 61st minute of the second half when Manny Lopez was able to score off a rebounded ball in front of the Prairie Wolves goal.
 
NWU got the early lead when Thomas Distefano scored off a beautiful pass from Royce Austen in the 7th minute to put the Prairie Wolves ahead early and looking for the big upset.
 
The Duhawks were able to tie the match in the 23rd minute when Connor McGarry scored off a corner kick.  The match was tied 1-1 at halftime.
 
In the second half, both teams had five shot attempts but it was the Duhawks that were able to capitalize on one of the shots to find the back of the goal.
 
Nebraska Wesleyan honored their three seniors, Tanner Wood, Alex Drent and David Zink, prior to the match as they played for a final time at Abel Stadium.
 
The Prairie Wolves will close out the 2019 season on Tuesday with a match at Simpon College.  NWU is now 7-7-3 overall and 1-5-1 in conference play as they try to end the year with a winning record.
