Soccer Scoring Slump Busted Versus Beavers

LINCOLN, Neb. – After being held scoreless the entire month of October, Nebraska Wesleyan needed just over one minute in Wednesday night's (Oct. 23) match to crack the scoreboard against Buena Vista University in American Rivers Conference men's soccer action.  NWU went on to earn the 2-0 victory over the Beavers to pick up their first conference win of the season.

The Prairie Wolves move to 7-6-3 overall and 1-4-1 in American Rivers action.  Buena Vista drops to 1-12-3 overall and 0-6 in league action.

Nebraska Wesleyan needed the shutout victory to try and end the season on a high note.  The Prairie Wolves snapped their three-match losing streak and earned their first win since Sept. 27.  It also marked the first match the Prairie Wolves have scored a goal having played six matches without a goal.

Thomas Distefano scored the opening goal in the 1st minute of the match on a cross from Cam Lawrence.  That was the first of two goals by the Prairie Wolves in the opening half.  Royce Austen scored in the 18th minute of the match on a pass by Distefano to complete the Prairie Wolves scoring.

NWU had several more scoring opportunities in the second half but couldn't convert the scoring chances.  The Prairie Wolves had 13 shots in the second half, including four shots on goal but the Beavers were able to get saves.

The Prairie Wolves ended the match with 26 total shot attempts, compared to only four from the Beavers.  Zachary Selph posted the shutout in goal for the Prairie Wolves.

Nebraska Wesleyan now prepares for their final home match of the 2019 season when they host nationally-ranked Loras College on Senior Day at Abel Stadium.
