NAPERVILLE, Ill. – A perfect weekend was the goal of the Nebraska Wesleyan volleyball team and they accomplished that on Saturday earning two more victories at the Tiffany Robinson Memorial Tournament hosted by North Central College in Naperville, Ill.
NWU swept past Trine 3-0 to earn their second win against that opponent on the weekend, then capped the weekend with a 3-1 victory over Saint Mary's Indiana. The Prairie Wolves went 4-0 on the weekend to move to 14-7 overall.
It took five sets to defeat Trine on Friday night, but on Saturday the Prairie Wolves needed just three sets for the win. NWU won 25-18, 25-20, 25-13 to start the day on a good note.
The Prairie Wolves had 37 kills in the match, hitting a very impressive .281 as a team.
Nicole Gonzales led NWU with nine kills while adding nine digs.
Hannah Bellinghausen finished with eight kills.
Anna Gottsch recorded a double-double with 12 assists and 10 digs, while
Cassidy Plooster dished out 16 assists. Kelsie Stoval had a team-high 16 digs in the match.
Against Saint Mary's, the Prairie Wolves had to rally back to earn the four set win in scores of 26-28, 25-19, 27-25, 25-19.
The second match of the day was very close with Saint Mary's finishing with 60 kills while NWU had 57.
Bellinghausen ended with 18 kills and a .327 hitting percentage with only two errors.
Cora Svoboda had a huge match at the net with 12 kills and nine block assists.
Plooster had a double-double with 27 assists and 10 digs, while Stovall had 25 digs.
NWU returns to conference play next weekend with matches at Coe College and Luther College.
