CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Scoring troubles continue to hinder the Nebraska Wesleyan men's soccer as they were shutout 1-0 at Coe College on Tuesday night (Oct. 15) in American Rivers Conference action.
Nebraska Wesleyan has now been held scoreless the entire month of October going five straight matches without a goal. The loss drops the Prairie Wolves to 6-5-3 overall and 0-3-1 in conference play.
Coe College picks up their first conference win of the year to move to 1-3 in the A-R-C and 6-8 overall. The Kohawks move past the Prairie Wolves in the league standings up to seventh place dropping NWU into 8
th place halfway through the conference schedule.
Much like the women's game before it, the Prairie Wolves were the dominant offensive team in the match but couldn't find the back of the net. NWU finished the match with 26 total shots, compared to only eight by the Kohawks.
NWU had 16 shot attempts in the first half and Coe managed only three as the teams played to a 0-0 tie in the first 45 minutes.
It was more of the same in the second half with the Prairie Wolves taking twice as many shots as the Kohawks.
Abdi Abdi broke the tie with a goal off a corner kick in the 64
th minute to put Kohawks ahead. Goalkeeper Connor Teget was able to keep the Prairie Wolves out of the goal recording 11 total saves.
Since scoring 12 goals against Nebraska Christian on Sept. 27, the Prairie Wolves have not been able to score a goal. They are scoreless in their four American Rivers Conference matches in 2019.
NWU will try to bounce back and turn things around this weekend when they travel to Decorah, Iowa to face nationally-ranked Luther College.
