Cold Shooting Dooms NWU Women at Simpson

INDIANOLA, Iowa – The Nebraska Wesleyan women's basketball team dropped their second straight American Rivers Conference game falling 84-58 on Wednesday night (Jan. 9) at Cowles Fieldhouse in Indianola, Iowa.
 
NWU led 20-18 at the end of the 1st quarter, but then a miserable 2nd quarter allowed the Storm to outscore the Prairie Wolves by 13 in the period.  The Prairie Wolves were 0-20 from the field in the 2nd quarter as their only six points came at the free throw line.
 
As cold as Nebraska Wesleyan was shooting in the second half, Simpson was equally as hot from the floor in the second half.  The Storm missed only 11 shots in the entire half making over 60 percent from the floor.  They ended the game at 51.6 percent.
 
Simpson was able to dominate inside as they scored 40 points inside the paint, compared to just 16 for the Prairie Wolves.  The Storm also held a +18 advantage in rebounding with a 49-31 margin.
 
Nebraska Wesleyan did scored 22 points in the 3rd quarter shooting 56.3 percent from the field, but they went cold again in the 4th quarter making just 4-19 for 21.1 percent.  The Prairie Wolves ended the game at 30.1 percent shooting, making 6-23 from 3-point range.
 
Jenna Taylor led Simpson with 25 points and eight rebounds while Janey Botkins scored 16.
 
Caitlin Navratil paced the Prairie Wolves with 18 points on 7-17 shooting, making 3-6 from 3-point range.  She also pulled down six rebounds.  Carsyn Zumpfe came off the bench to score 12 points, while Bailey Hallgren Meehan scored 11 points with a team-high seven rebounds.
 
Nebraska Wesleyan returns home on Saturday to host nationally-ranked Wartburg College at 2 pm in Snyder Arena.
