DUBUQUE, Iowa – Loras College jumped out to a quick 3-0 first half lead and cruised to a 5-2 victory over Nebraska Wesleyan in American Rivers Conference women's soccer action on Saturday evening (Sept. 29) in Dubuque, Iowa.
The Prairie Wolves remain winless in conference play as they drop to 0-2 in American Rivers action and 6-4 overall. Loras picked up their 8
th win of the year going 8-2 overall and 2-0 in A-R-C play.
Loras wasted little time taking control of the match as Gretchen Schultz scored in the 13
th minute. It was the first of three goals in the match for Schultz as she posted a hat trick on Saturday. The Duhawks added a goal from Jenny Wick in the 20
th minute then Elizabeth Mills scored in the 29
th minute making the score 3-0 before 30 minutes had expired in the match.
NWU got on the scoreboard later in the first half when
Shannon Jerram scored her fourth goal of the year off a tip in after a save. That made the score 3-1 at halftime.
Things were looking better for NWU early in the second half as
Olivia Munroe scored a goal to cut the lead down to 3-2 in the 54
th minute. The Prairie Wolves looked like they would rally all the way back, but Schultz had something to say about that.
Schultz scored her second goal in the 64
th minute, then capped off her big day with another goal in the 79
th minute.
Loras outshot NWU 23-7 on Saturday night but only seven of their shots were on goal. Five of the NWU seven shots were on goal.
Nebraska Wesleyan returns home on Wednesday night to host Simpson College looking for their first conference win of the year.
