DUBUQUE, Iowa – Loras College scored two second half goals to hand the Nebraska Wesleyan men's soccer team their second conference loss of the season as the Duhawks defeated the Prairie Wolves 2-1 in American Rivers action on Saturday night (Sept. 29) in Dubuque, Iowa.
NWU has now lost three straight matches to fall below .500 for the first time this year at 4-5 overall. They remain winless in American Rivers Conference play at 0-2 after playing two of the top teams in the league standings to begin the year. Loras moves to an impressive 7-1 overall and 2-0 in A-R-C action.
David Zink gave the Prairie Wolves an early lead as he scored in the 37
th minute to put NWU ahead 1-0. Zink scored off a header on a corner kick and assist by Jaoo Pedro Miranda. That 1-0 lead held up at halftime with the Prairie Wolves taking a one goal advantage into intermission.
Loras was able to tie the match at 1-1 when Manny Lopez scored on a breakaway in the 69
th minute. Less than two minutes later, the Duhawks took the lead when Ryan Pacholski scored at the 71:02 mark of the match.
That would be the last goal of the match for either team as NWU was held at bay offensively in the second half. The Prairie Wolves managed just one total shot in the final 45 minutes, compared to nine for Loras.
NWU looks to get back on the winning track on Wednesday when they host Simpson College.
