LINCOLN, Neb. – Nebraska Wesleyan was denied their chance at a conference victory once again on Wednesday night (Oct. 3) as Simpson College came into Abel Stadium and defeated the Prairie Wolves 4-1 in American Rivers Conference men's soccer action.
Ian Dean recorded a hat trick for the Storm with three total goals in the match and that was too much for the Prairie Wolves to overcome.
NWU drops to 4-6 overall and 0-3 in American Rivers play. All three conference losses for the Prairie Wolves have come against teams that are unbeaten in A-R-C action. Simpson remains on top of the league standings at 8-3-1 overall and 3-0 in conference play.
The Prairie Wolves came out and looked like the more aggressive team to start the match. NWU controlled the ball and ended with 10 shot attempts in the half, but they were unable to convert.
Dean scored the first of his three goals on a header in the 22
nd minute and that shifted all momentum over to the Storm. Six minutes later he struck again to make the score 2-1.
Nebraska Wesleyan finally got on the board in the 35
th minute when
Luke Livingston converted a penalty kick to cut the lead in half. 2-1 would be the score heading into the break.
In the second half it was all Simpson as they tacked on two more goals and held NWU without a single shot attempt. Enrique Idehen scored in the 68
th minute, then Dean completed the hat trick one minute later.
The Prairie Wolves play at Wartburg College on Saturday then step out of conference play on Sunday (Oct. 7) when they host Presentation College at 3 pm as part of the 2018 Homecoming Weekend. It will also be the Senior Day match for Nebraska Wesleyan.
