LINCOLN, Neb. – Sommer Stevens scored a goal in the second overtime to give Luther College a 1-0 victory over Nebraska Wesleyan in the American Rivers Conference women's soccer opening match on Saturday night (Sept. 22) at Abel Stadium.
Luther College earned their first win of the season as they move to 1-4-3 overall while NWU drops to 5-3 and 0-1 in conference play.
Neither team was able to generate much offense throughout the match for the first 100 minutes. Nebraska Wesleyan had just two total shot attempts for the entire match and none after the first half.
Finally in the second half, Sommer Stevens was able to get the game-winning goal off a corner kick in the 106
th minute as the Norse won with 3:21 left in second overtime.
Nebraska Wesleyan is right back at Abel Stadium on Monday night when they host Briar Cliff University.
