LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Wesleyan men's tennis team fell in a pair of Iowa Conference matches on Saturday at the Knight Fieldhouse on the NWU campus. Central College defeated the Prairie Wolves 9-0 to open the day, then nationally-recognized Coe College handed NWU a 9-0 setback.
NWU is now 2-12 overall and is still looking for their first conference victory as they are 0-3 in IIAC play.
Central College earned their third conference win by defeating the Prairie Wolves 9-0. The Dutch are now 10-8 overall.
Coe College, ranked 38
th nationally and 8
th in the region, is on top of the IIAC standings with a 5-0 conference record. They are 17-4 overall.
The Prairie Wolves put up a good fight against the Kohawks, especially in singles play where the forced two of the matches to go three sets.
At No. 4 singles,
Gabriel Sellmer took the opening set over Tyler Nelson 7-6 before Nelson rallied back to win the next two 6-3, 10-5 to take the match.
Jordan Pieper also forced his opponent into three sets at No. 5 singles versus Will Rizer. Rizer won 6-4 then Pieper took set two 6-3 forcing a third set which Rizer came out on top 10-4.
Nebraska Wesleyan will now prepare for a busy upcoming weekend where they will have three road IIAC matches. The Prairie Wolves play at Luther College at 9 am on Saturday (April 14), then travel down to Wartburg College for a 3 pm match. On Sunday NWU will stop and take on Simpson College at 11 am.
