INDIANOLA, Iowa – Nebraska Wesleyan scored five unanswered runs in the final two innings as the Prairie Wolves earned the series victory with a 6-3 win at Simpson College on Saturday afternoon (April 7) at McBride Field in Indianola, Iowa.
The Prairie Wolves improve to 6-16 overall and are now 2-9 in Iowa Conference baseball action.
Trailing 3-1 heading into the 8
th Riley Ward led off the inning with a single. A walk by
Justus Stocks put two runners on and a Simpson error on
Spencer Scheer's sacrifice attempt loaded the bases.
Derek Kolbush walked to bring in Ward, then Stocks scored on a balk to tie the game at 3-3.
With the game tied at 3-3, the Prairie Wolves got key hits in the top of the 9
th to earn the victory. Kolbush had the biggest hit with a two-run single to drive in two. Scheer drove in the other run on a fielders choice bunt.
Jesse Maguire earned the victory on the mound pitching a complete game allowing just one earned run. Maguire struck out eight and gave up only five hits in nine innings of work to improve to 3-4.
Justus Stocks was 2-3 at the plate with two runs scored and a stolen base to keep his batting average well over .400 on the year. He was the lone Prairie Wolves player to record a multi-hit game.
