Doane Defeats NWU 7-0 in Shortened Tennis Match

CRETE, Neb. – Playing their final non-conference match of the season, the Nebraska Wesleyan men's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision at Doane University on Tuesday (April 24) in a rain shortened match in Crete.
 
Two singles matches were unable to be finished because of the weather.  The Tigers were leading both of those matches when they were halted.
 
NWU battled the Tigers tough in the three doubles matches, falling 8-5 at No. 1, 8-3 at No. 2 and the most competitive was 8-6 at No. 3 doubles where Caleb Thiesen and Jared Scherling were edged out by Arcane Boles and Brody Lauby.
 
All singles matches were played to one set to try and finish before the weather hit.  Adam Olson lost 8-3 at No. 1 singles to Ignacio Morrell, Matheus Bustamante fell 8-4 at No. 2 to Alejandro Benitez, Gabriel Sellmer dropped a 8-2 match to Arcane Boles and Scherling fell 8-4 to Lauby.
 
Nebraska Wesleyan is now 4-15 overall on the season with one match remaining.  It is the most important match of the year as the Prairie Wolves can clinch a spot in the IIAC Postseason Tournament with a win over University of Dubuque on Saturday (April 28).  The match is scheduled for 9 am at Woods Tennis Center.
