STORM LAKE, Iowa – The Nebraska Wesleyan men's tennis team kept their postseason chances alive with an 8-1 victory over Buena Vista University on Saturday (April 21) in Storm Lake, Iowa.
NWU improved to 4-14 overall and 2-5 in Iowa Conference action to move up to 6
th place in the IIAC standings with one match remaining. The top six teams in the end of year standings qualify for the IIAC Postseason Tournament. Nebraska Wesleyan hosts University of Dubuque in their final conference match on April 28, a team that has only one IIAC victory.
Doubles matches all were in favor of the Prairie Wolves on Saturday as they took all three.
Hale Breit and
Adam Olson won 8-5 in the No. 1 matchup,
Jordan Pieper and
Nathan Seaton won 8-6 at No. 2 doubles and
Caleb Thiessen/
Jared Scherling blanked their opponents 8-0 in the No. 3 match.
Buena Vista's only victory of the day came at No. 1 singles as John Foss defeated NWU's
Adam Olson 6-4, 6-4.
NWU won all five other singles matches. Breit was a 6-2, 6-2 winner at No. 2, Sellmer won 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3 and
Matheus Bustamante won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4. The final two matches were played to eight as Pieper won 8-1 at No. 5 and Scherling was a 8-1 winner in the No. 6 singles match.
Nebraska Wesleyan will have next play at Doane University on Tuesday (Apr. 24) in Crete before returning to IIAC play on Saturday for the final regular season match of the year.
