AUBURNDALE, Fla. – Freshman pitcher
Hayden Parker pitched a complete game 4-hit shutout in his collegiate debut as he led Nebraska Wesleyan to a 4-0 victory over Muhlenberg on Wednesday (Mar. 7) at the Russ Mat Invitational in Florida.
Parker, a freshman from Cave Creek, Arizona, struck out six and walked none allowing just four hits in the 9-inning complete game shutout.
NWU moves to 2-3 on the season with two more games remaining on their trip as they play a single game on both Thursday and Friday.
The Prairie Wolves jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the 1
st inning as
Matt Orozco doubled to drive in
Owen Gubbels. They added another run in the 2
nd inning when
Joel Maxwell was hit by a pitch, then moved to third base on an error and came around to score on a fielder's choice by
Bradyn Thomas.
In the 5
th inning, the Prairie Wolves loaded the bases as
Justus Stocks singled, Gubbels walked and
Cole Schumacher was hit by a pitch. Orozco picked up his second RBI of the game drawing a bases loaded walk.
Tyler Winterstein led off the 7
th inning with a triple, but he would be picked off at third base. The Prairie Wolves did score a run in the inning with Brook Jonson getting an RBI single to drive in Orozco.
Parker worked 1-2-3 innings the final three frames of the game to close out his special performance on the mound.
Spencer Scheer was the lone NWU player to have a multiple hit game, going 2-2 at the plate with a double entering the game as a reserve. Orozco was 1-2 with two RBI and a double.
