Softball Picks Up Two Shutout Wins in Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. – Nebraska Wesleyan pitchers didn't allow a single run in two games as the Prairie Wolves picked up two shutout victories defeating Eastern Nazarene 1-0, and Rosemont 12-0 on Tuesday on their spring break trip to Florida.

Kailey Meyer threw a complete game three-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts in the victory over Eastern Nazarene to start the day.  Meyer was in complete control on the mound to earn her third win of the season.  She struck out 11 and walked only one with three singles.

NWU scored their only run of the game in the 4th inning.  Payton Swanson reached on an error then moved to second on a single by Danelle Snyder.  With two outs, both runners moved up a base on a wild pitch.  Jade Mendoza walked to load the bases to bring up the top of the order and Morgan Shipley.  Shipley reached on an error by the pitcher to allow a run to score.

That would be the only run to score the entire game as Meyer allowed only one runner to reach the final three innings.

The Prairie Wolves finished with five hits in the game, led by Danelle Snyder who was 2-3 with a double.

Game two was a much easier road for the Prairie Wolves as they defeated Rosemont 12-0 in five innings.  NWU pounded out 12 hits in the game and limited Rosemont to only one hit.

Jessie Briley and LeighAnn Novotny combined to pitch the one-hit shutout.  Briley struck out eight of the nine batters she faced and did not give up a hit.  Novotny came in for the final two innings and struck out three.

NWU scored three runs in the 2nd inning to get ahead early, then erupted for seven runs in the 4th inning to put the game away.

Destiny Indra hit a 2-run double for the big hit in the 2nd inning.  In the 4th inning, Kailey Meyer hit a 3-run double for the big hit of the day.  Nicole Vana had an RBI single for the other big hit as NWU scored the seven runs on just three hits.

Morgan Shipley finished the game 3-3 to lead the Prairie Wolves offense, while Meyer was 2-3 with three RBI.  Vana also had two hits in the game, going 2-4 with an RBI.
