WAVERLY, Iowa –
Caitlin Navratil scored a career-high 33 points but it wasn't enough as 2
nd-ranked Wartburg College defeated the Nebraska Wesleyan women 99-83 on Saturday afternoon at Levick Arena in Waverly, Iowa.
Wartburg remains undefeated at 23-0, while the Prairie Wolves fall to 13-11 and 4-11 in IIAC play. The loss officially eliminates Nebraska Wesleyan from postseason contention.
Navratil was 15-23 from the field in her career-best performance, making 3-7 from the 3-point arc. She also led the team with six steals and five assists.
However, the rest of the Prairie Wolves struggled from the field, especially in the first half. NWU shot just 13-41 from the field in the opening 20 minutes while Wartburg was just under 50 percent.
Wartburg got ahead 27-13 at the end of the first quarter and the Prairie Wolves were never able to get within single digits the rest of the way.
The Prairie Wolves were much more effective on offense in the second half, shooting 52.9 percent in the third quarter and 59.1 percent in the fourth quarter. NWU scored 52 points in the second half and outscored the Knights by one point. The Knights were 10-14 shooting in the fourth quarter.
Besides Navratil's 33 points, two other Prairie Wolves reached double figures in scoring.
Klaire Phillips had 15 points with four rebounds, while
Carly Bostock scored 14 with five rebounds. Bailey Hallgren Meehan came off the bench to pull down nine rebounds with eight points.
Katie Sommer led Wartburg with 28 points, making four 3-pointers and 12-14 at the free throw line.
NWU will close out their season on Feb. 14 when they host Central College.
