LINCOLN, Neb. – University of Dubuque scored the only goal of the match in overtime as the Spartans came into Abel Stadium and spoiled senior day for the Nebraska Wesleyan women's soccer team with a 1-0 victory in American Rivers Conference action.
With the loss, the Prairie Wolves are officially eliminated from postseason tournament contention with one match to play. NWU drops back below .500 at 7-8 overall and falls to 1-6 in American Rivers action. Dubuque picked up their 12
th win of the season moving to 12-2-1 and 4-1-1 in A-R-C play.
Neither team was able to score in 90 minutes of regulation. The Prairie Wolves had five total shot attempts in regulation compared to 10 for the Spartans.
In the 94
th minute, Lauren Cangelosi scored the game-winner on a shot in the top left corner of the goal that sent the Spartans home victorious. Cangelosi scored her fifth goal of the year for the win.
Cambria Collins protected the goal well for NWU throughout the match recording four saves.
For Nebraska Wesleyan it was the final home match of the season for six seniors who were all honored before the match.
The Prairie Wolves will close out the 2018 season on Oct. 23 at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa.
