PELLA, Iowa – The Nebraska Wesleyan men's soccer team had their two-game winning streak snapped on Saturday with a 2-1 loss at Central College in American Rivers Conference action.
Central remains towards the top of the league standings with a 4-1 conference record. Meanwhile, NWU drops to 6-8 overall and 1-5 in A-R-C play with two matches remaining. NWU is still alive to earn the sixth spot in the conference postseason tournament.
The Dutch scored the first goal of the match in the 11
th minute with Miguel Pina scoring his sixth goal of the year off an assist from Zach Worster. That would be the only goal of the first half as Central took a 1-0 lead into intermission.
Central added another goal in the 64
th minute when Aroni Niyikiza scored his first goal of the year giving the Dutch a two goal lead.
NWU scored their only goal late with
Jake Kennedy scoring off an assist from
Tanner Wood. The goal came in the 81
st minute and the Prairie Wolves were not able to score in the remaining eight minutes.
The Prairie Wolves have their final home match of the season this Wednesday when they host the University of Dubuque in a key match that has postseason implications.
