LINCOLN, Neb. – Buena Vista outscored the Nebraska Wesleyan women by 15 points in the second half as they rallied back to defeat the Prairie Wolves 84-72 in Iowa Conference women's basketball action on Wednesday night (Jan. 3) at Snyder Arena.
NWU led 38-35 at halftime looking for their first conference win of the season, but the Beavers shot over 50 percent from the floor in second half to pull away.
While BVU made 55.6 of their shots in the 3
rd quarter, the Prairie Wolves were only 6-23 from the floor during the period. The Prairie Wolves were only outscored by six in the fourth quarter but the lead was too much to overcome.
Caitlin Navratil made 9-9 from the field in the first half to score 18 points in the opening 20 minutes. Navratil made her first 10 shots of the game before finally missing a 3-point attempt. She ended the night with a game-high 26 points with six assists and five steals.
Buena Vista used a strong inside attack scoring 48 points in the paint, taking advantage of the Prairie Wolves inside. BVU also held a +11 advantage on the glass.
Claudia Larsen, the reigning IIAC player of the week, had a double-double of 24 points and 10 rebounds. She was one of three Beavers to record double-doubles. Morgan Muhlbauer had 17 points and 13 rebounds, while Jasmine Demers had 18 points and 10 rebounds.
NWU had two players come off the bench to score in double figures. Freshman
Macy Gustafson produced a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds, while
Mikenzie Delgado scored 13 points.
