Women Down Dubuque 65-61 To Complete Season Sweep

DUBUQUE, Iowa – Nebraska Wesleyan completed the season sweep over the University of Dubuque as they defeated the Spartans 65-61 in Iowa Conference women's basketball on Saturday afternoon in Dubuque, Iowa.  It marks the second straight Saturday that NWU has defeated Dubuque as the two teams played just one week ago.
 
The Prairie Wolves trailed 6-0 to start the game but then outscored the Spartans 21-4 the rest of the quarter as they jumped ahead 21-10 after one quarter of play.  NWU maintained the lead throughout the second quarter and held a 37-25 lead at halftime.
 
In the second half the Prairie Wolves got ahead by as many as 20 points, starting the third quarter on a 12-4 run to go ahead 49-29. 
 
Dubuque would not go away and made things interesting in the 4th quarter.  The Spartans were within five points at 60-55 with 2:31 remaining as Lexi Daniels hit her third 3-pointer of the quarter.  That was as close as Dubuque would get as NWU limited the Spartans to only four points the rest of the way.
 
NWU used its full court pressure defense to force Dubuque into a total of 31 turnovers, and took advantage of those turnovers converting them into 32 points. 
 
The Prairie Wolves shot 37.7 percent from the floor as a team and made just 6-24 from 3-point range compared to Dubuque who made 11-23 from long range.  The points off turnovers still proved to be the difference in the game.
 
Caitlin Navratil led the Prairie Wolves in scoring once again with 19 points.  Navratil, who is second in the IIAC in scoring, was 8-11 from the field for her team-high 19 points. 
 
Two other NWU players reached double figures in scoring.  Macy Gustafson scored 11 points on 4-7 shooting and Mikenzie Delgado came of f the bench to score 10 points with three made 3-pointers.
 
Lexi Daniels scored a game-high 21 points making seven 3-pointers to lead Dubuque.
