Kohawks Dominate 2nd Half in 91-82 Win Over NWU

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Coe College used a big run in the 3rd quarter and missed only two shots in the 4th quarter to overcome a halftime deficit and rally back to defeat the Nebraska Wesleyan women's basketball team 91-82 on Monday afternoon in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
 
NWU led 37-34 at halftime on the road and got up by six points early in the third quarter when the Kohawks made their run.  NWU led 40-34, then Coe went on a 9-0 run to build up a 45-40 lead and the Prairie Wolves would never lead again.
 
Coe College held a 58-54 lead after three quarters and would get up by as many as 12 points in the fourth quarter.  The Kohawks would then hold on for the seven point victory to get back over .500 in Iowa Conference play.  Coe is 7-9 overall and 4-3 in IIAC, while NWU drops to 11-5 and 2-5 in conference play as their two-game winning streak was snapped.
 
After recording a victory shooting 28 percent on Saturday, the Prairie Wolves had their second best shooting performance of the season on Monday but it resulted in a loss.  NWU shot 51.8 percent from the floor, only the second time this season that NWU has made over 50 percent of their field goal attempts.  In the second quarter, NWU was 8-13 from the field.
 
Coe was even better making 60.7 percent from the field for the game.  Coe was 13-15 for 86.7 percent in the fourth quarter, including 3-3 from 3-point range and 4-4 at the free throw line.  The Kohawks were 9-16 in the third quarter as Coe missed just nine shots the entire second half.
 
Jenna Lehman led Coe with 29 points, making 10-15 from the field and 9-10 at the free throw line.  She also had six assists.  Aleena Hobbs score 22 points in the game.
 
Cailtin Navratil led the Prairie Wolves scoring 18 points on 8-13 shooting.  She was one of three Prairie Wolves to score in double figures.  Morgan Nishida came off the bench to score 13 points and Bailey Hallgren Meehan had 10 points off the bench.
 
It won't get any easier for the Prairie Wolves on Wednesday night when they host No. 2 ranked and undefeated Wartburg College in Snyder Arena.
