WAVERLY, Iowa – Wartburg College remained undefeated in Iowa Conference volleyball play as the Knights defeated Nebraska Wesleyan, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon in Waverly, Iowa.
The Prairie Wolves drop their second IIAC match of the weekend and suffer their sixth straight loss to fall to 7-9 overall and 1-3 in IIAC play. Wartburg continues their solid season improving to 13-3 and 3-0 in league action.
Set one was a thriller with Wartburg finally earning the 28-26 win. NWU bounced back to win the second set 25-21, earning the win on a kill from
Cora Svoboda. Wartburg then took the final two sets 25-16 and 25-22.
NWU finished the match with 54 kills, including 36 in the first two sets. In set two, NWU had 18 kills and 0 errors for a .486 hitting percentage. They managed only a combined 18 in the final two sets.
Hannah Bellinghausen led the way with 20 kills and a .486 hitting percentage.
Kierra Harder posted her second straight double with 12 kills and 15 digs.
Kelsie Stovall dished out 41 assists and libero Lizzie Salle led NWU with 20 digs.
Aryn Jones had 19 kills to lead Wartburg who finished with 66 total kills in the match.
NWU will return home next weekend for a pair of IIAC matches, beginning Friday night versus University of Dubuque.
