DECORAH, Iowa – The Nebraska Wesleyan women's soccer team opened the conference portion of their schedule on Saturday afternoon with a 2-1 loss at Luther College in IIAC action at Decorah, Iowa.
Luther College got the early lead when Ellie Schmid scored a goal in the 23
rd minute to go ahead 1-0. The 1-0 score would hold up at halftime. NWU actually outshot the Norse 6-3 during the first 45 minutes but couldn't find the back of the net.
In the second half, McKenzie Lundquist gave the Norse a 2-0 advantage when she scored the second goal of the match in the 57
th minute.
NWU was able to get on the scoreboard less than two minutes later when
Kaitlyn Sullivan scored off an assist from Jenna DeJong. It was the second goal of the season for Sullivan and it pulled the Prairie Wolves within one goal with over 30 minutes remaining in the match.
Unfortunately that was the lone goal of the match for the Prairie Wolves as Luther College held on for the victory. NWU had four shots in the second half, but none of them were on goal.
NWU falls to 2-5-1 overall and 0-1 in IIAC action. NWU has been held to one goal or less in six of their eight matches, not recording a victory in any of those matches. The Prairie Wolves are 2-0 when scoring more than one goal.
The Prairie Wolves will get a chance to rebound right away as they host Waldorf University on Sunday at 4 pm at Abel Stadium in a non conference match.
