DECORAH, Iowa – Four second half goals lifted Luther College past Nebraska Wesleyan 4-0 in the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's soccer opener on Saturday afternoon in Decorah, Iowa.
NWU falls to 5-4 overall and 0-1 in IIAC play, while the Norse advance to 4-3 and 1-0 in IIAC action.
The two teams played to a 0-0 tie after the first 45 minutes as neither team were able to score. NWU attempted two shots in the first half with Luther in the second half.
In the second half, Luther got on a roll on their offensive end of the field. The scoring started in the 54
th minute as Tristan Davenport scored in the 54
th minute on a corner kick. The Norse scored again ten minutes later when Ben Keller scored his third goal of the season.
Luther wasn't done lighting up the scoreboard as they tacked on two more goals in the final 30 minutes. Marc-Arthur Shapiro scored in the 70
th minute then Rafael Broseghini capped the scoring in the final minute on a free kick.
The Norse ended the match with 15 total shot attempts, compared to just five for the Prairie Wolves.
NWU will have a chance to bounce back right away as they return home on Sunday to face Waldorf University at Abel Stadium in a non conference match.
