NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Carleton College scored one goal in each half as they shutout the Nebraska Wesleyan men's soccer team on Saturday night (Sept. 2) in Northfield, Minn. The loss was gives the Prairie Wolves a 0-2 start to the year on their opening road trip to Minnesota.
Carleton got on the board first in the 15
th minute as Trevor Freeland scored breaking out of a cluster of players and found the back of the net. The score would remain 1-0 at halftime.
The second half was more of the same as the NWU offense was unable to get on track. They had just one shot attempt in the second half, while Carleton attempted only four. They did connect on one of those shots as Alvin Bierley scored his first goal of the year on a cross from Freeland in the 83
rd minute.
That second goal would be all that Carleton would need as they held on for the 2-0 shutout victory. Carleton finished with 12 shot attempts, compared to three for the Prairie Wolves.
Jack Nespor had five saves in goal to lead the NWU defense.
NWU will go for their first victory of the season on Wednesday when they host York College in the home opener at Abel Stadium.
