Men Record First Victory in Home Opener Versus York

LINCOLN, Neb. – Nebraska Wesleyan picked up their first win of the 2017 season on Wednesday night (Sept. 6) as the men's soccer team shutout York College, 2-0, in the home debut at Abel Stadium.
 
The Prairie Wolves scored a goal in each of the two halves to improve to 1-2-0 early on the season with the Panthers dropping to 1-3.
 
Jake Kennedy put the Prairie Wolves on the board first in the 24th minute as he scored on an assist from Brady Blazek who crossed as well as Alex Day
 
The 1-0 score would remain on the scoreboard at halftime as the Prairie Wolves held York scoreless.  NWU had 12 total shot attempts in the first half, compared to just five for the Panthers.
 
In the second half, NWU was unable to pull away until less than ten minutes were remaining.  Hunter Kruse scored his first goal as a collegiate player in the 82nd player to give the Prairie Wolves a two-goal cushion and secure their first win of the season.  Blazek had the assist on the goal by Kruse.
 
Prairie Wolves goalkeeper Jack Nespor posted the shutout with eight saves during the match.  He faced a total of 13 shots, as NWU attempted 18 total throughout the match.
 
Nebraska Wesleyan wants to keep the winning momentum going forward this weekend as they travel back to Minnesota for a pair of matches at the Big Athletics/Adidas Tournament in Winona, Minn.
