LINCOLN, Neb. – Nebraska Wesleyan extended its winning streak to three as the Prairie Wolves posted a dominant 5-1 win over Cornell College on Sunday afternoon in men's soccer action at Abel Stadium.
The Prairie Wolves are now 5-3 overall with the three straight victories. Cornell falls to 2-3 on the season.
NWU wasted little time to get the scoring started as
Ryan Anderson scored only two minutes into the match. He got his first goal of the year on an assist from
Brady Blazek.
Later in the first half,
Chris Elbracht scored his first goal of the year as he found the open net in the 24
th minute.
Conrad Lawrence and
Alex Day assisted on the Elbracht goal.
The Prairie Wolves scored one more goal before halftime as
Todd Mathewson put the Prairie Wolves up 3-0 on an assist from
Conrad Lawrence and
Joao Pedro Miranda.
Miranda got in the scoring fun himself in the 84
th minute to give NWU a 4-0 advantage. The NWU scoring was completed by
Aaron Noddle as he scored the fifth goal of the match, just 45 seconds after Miranda.
Cornell scored their only goal of the match with less than three minutes remaining as Facundo Benavidez got the Rams lone goal.
NWU finished the match with 17 total shots, compared to nine for Cornell.
Nebraska Wesleyan now prepares for their IIAC opener next Saturday (Sept. 23) when they travel to Luther College.
