SPRINGFIELD, Neb. — Nebraska Wesleyan men's soccer got their record back to .500 overall as the Prairie Wolves went on the road and shutout Nebraska Christian College, 5-0, on Thursday afternoon (Sept. 16) at the Springfield Soccer Complex.
With the victory, the Prairie Wolves improve their record to 3-3 with two upcoming home matches this weekend.
NWU scored three goals in the first half then added two more in the second in the shutout victory over the Sentinels, a team that belongs to the NCCAA.
The scoring got started in the 15th minute as
Tanner Wood scored on an assist from
Hunter Kruse.
Conrad Lawrence took his turn next at scoring a goal from the Prairie Wolves off an assist from
Ryan Anderson. The third goal of the half came by
Luke Livingston with less than 10 minutes remaining before intermission.
It was a total team effort by the Prairie Wolves offense as five different players recorded a goal in the victory.
In the second half,
Logan Johnson found the open net off assists by
Brady Blazek and
Jake Kennedy, then
Joao Pedro Miranda finished the scoring with a goal to clinch the victory.
The shutout victory was the second of the year for the Prairie Wolves. NWU was clearly the more aggressive team with 47 total shot attempts, compared to just two for the Sentinels.
NWU will face a tougher challenge this weekend when they have a pair of non conference matches against NCAA III competition. The Prairie Wolves will face Grinnell College on Saturday in a match played at Seacrest Field, then NWU will host Cornell College on Sunday at Abel Stadium.
