CLERMONT, Fla. – Nebraska Wesleyan picked up a pair of 1-run victories on their third day of the spring trip at the NTC Softball Tournament in Clermont, Florida. The Prairie Wolves opened the day with a 3-2 win over Wheaton, then completed the day with a 2-1 win over Concordia-Chicago.
NWU improves to 6-4 overall on the season with six more games remaining on the spring trip.
In the morning opener against Wheaton, the Prairie Wolves held off a late rally to earn the win. NWU led 3-0 heading into the 7
th inning, when Wheaton made a late run scoring two runs in the bottom of the 7
th. The game-tying run was stranded at first base to give NWU the victory.
The Prairie Wolves opened the game with a run in the top of the 3
rd inning.
Destiny Indra was able to come around and score on an error to put NWU ahead. They added two runs in the 6
th inning to extend their lead. Once again the Prairie Wolves took advantage of an error as a misplayed ball in the outfield allowed to runs to score.
NWU finished the game with four hits as four different players had a hit. The only extra base hit was a double from
Maddy Ethen. Jesse Briley got the victory on the mound allowing one earned run and seven hits in the complete game victory with six strikeouts.
Against Concordia-Chicago, the Prairie Wolves jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the 1
st inning and that was all that NWU pitcher
LeighAnn Novotny needed as she limited the Concordia offense to just one run. Novotny got the complete game win allowing six hits with one earned run and seven strikeouts.
Jordan Arndt had the big hit in the 1
st inning for the Prairie Wolves offense getting a 2-run double to drive in
Morgan Shipley and
Madi Francis.
Nebraska Wesleyan will face Penn State-Behrend on Tuesday in a doubleheader.
