Pair of 1-Run Games For Prairie Wolves

LAKELAND, Fla. – Day two of the Russ Matt Invitational for the Nebraska Wesleyan baseball team saw the Prairie Wolves play a pair of one run games against Mount Union.  NWU dropped the opener 2-1, then came back to earn a 3-2 victory in the second game.
 
The Prairie Wolves (4-4) have now split games on both days of their trip as they also went 1-1 on the opening day against Kings College.
 
In the opening game, Mount Union took a 2-0 lead with two runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning.  NWU cut the lead in half scoring a run in the top of the 3rd inning.  Kyle Hunter got a two out triple then scored on a an error by the Raiders.  Brook Johnson doubled to put runners on second and third but both runners were stranded.
 
Neither team scored the rest of the way as Mount Union earned the low scoring 2-1 victory.  Both teams had eight hits in the game.  Four of the eight NWU hits were extra base hits as Spencer Scheer and David Morris doubled to join Hunter and Johnson with the extra base hits.  Austin Ragland was the losing pitcher of record on the mound for NWU allowing two runs on eight hits with two strikeouts and no walks in six innings.
 
NWU jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second game with two runs in the bottom of the 1st inning.  Aaron Ochsner singled to start the game followed by a single from Hunter.  Ochsner then scored on an error.  The inning ended on a rare triple play from the Raiders.
 
Mount Union got a two-run double in the top of the 2nd inning to take a 2-1 lead.  That lead would hold up until the Prairie Wolves rallied in the 5th inning.
 
Spencer Scheer hit a RBI double to center field to tie the game then later in the inning Cole Schumacher got the game winning RBI on a single to left field.
 
Micah Hoage  was the starting pitcher and went 4 2/3 innings allowing two earned runs and seven hits.  Relief pitcher Connor Cech earned the win pitching the final two scoreless innings with a strikeout.
