LINCOLN, Neb. – Nebraska Wesleyan was outscored by 22 runs in a pair of losses on Sunday afternoon on the home opening weekend for the Prairie Wolves baseball team. NWU lost 11-0 to University of Jamestown in the first game, then fell 15-4 to Concordia University to close out the three game homestand.
The Prairie Wolves struggled on offense during the four games returning from spring break, getting just eight total runs with two shutout losses.
Jamestown pitching continued to give the Prairie Wolves fits as the Jimmies pitchers combined to post 14 strikeouts in the combined shutout victory. In two games against Jamestown, NWU did not score a run and struck out 25 times. Starting pitcher Logan Lund pitched 5 2/3 innings allowing no runs and four hits with 10 strikeouts.
NWU was right in the game early as it was on Saturday, but then Jamestown scored in each of the final five innings. Neither team scored through four innings, until Jamestown broke through for three runs. They added two more in the 6
th, one each in the 7
th and 8
th and four to put the game away in the 9
th.

Austin Ragland had a solid outing going 5.0 innings allowing just two hits with four strikeouts. He walked one and hit two batters allowing three earned runs.
Brook Johnson was 2-3 to lead the Prairie Wolves offense.
Against Concordia, the Bulldogs flexed their muscles early as they hit the first pitch of the game deep over the right field with Casey Berg getting the solo shot. They added three more doubles in the inning plating three in the opening frame. The Bulldogs got up 4-0 before NWU made a rally.
Justus Stocks opened the bottom of the 3
rd with a walk, then
James Babic was hit by a pitch to put two runners on.
Kyle Hunter then drove a ball over the left field fence for a 3-run home run to make the score 4-3.
That was as close as the Prairie Wolves could get as Concordia had a huge 4
th inning. The Bulldogs scored eight runs on just two hits, taking advantage of five walks and three hit batters. They continued to add to the lead and eventually won 15-4 in seven innings due to the run rule.
NWU did score one other run in the 5
th inning when Stocks singled then scored on a passed ball. The Prairie Wolves struggled with strikeouts against the Bulldog pitchers as well with 11 total strikeouts.
Micah Hoage took the loss for NWU allowing four earned runs on five hits in three innings.
Cole Schumacher and
Salvador Anguiano were the other two players to record hits in the game.
Nebraska Wesleyan will open their first year of Iowa Conference play next weekend with a 3-game series at Coe College.
