LINCOLN, Neb. – Nebraska Wesleyan secured their first winning season since 2001 as the Prairie Wolves rolled past Kansas Christian College, 76-53, in a non-conference game to close out the home season for the NWU women's basketball team.
The Prairie Wolves improve to 13-11 overall with one game remaining in the regular season. NWU plays at Loras College on Saturday afternoon playing for a spot in the IIAC Postseason Tournament.
NWU took advantage of a distinct height advantage in the paint as the Prairie Wolves dominated on the glass. NWU pulled held a +35 advantage in rebounding margin, including 29 offensive boards. NWU scored 23 second chance boards with the 69-35 advantage on the glass.
The Prairie Wolves did not have a great shooting night hitting only 36.6 percent from the floor and 5-24 on 3-pointers, but they still controlled the majority of the game. NWU led 22-10 after the first quarter and 38-26 at halftime.
NWU outscored the Falcons by 11 points in the second half as they continued to build on the lead.
Addie Wetzel recorded a double-double to lead the Prairie Wolves. Wetzel had 21 points and 12 rebounds. The other NWU player in double figures was
Caitlin Navratil with 10 points.
Three other NWU players pulled down double figures in rebounds.
Klaire Phillips had a team-high 13 rebounds and
Carly Bostock came off the bench for 11 rebounds.
Kansas Christian was led by Dajanae Wilson with 20 points and four assists.
