Fast Paced Wolves Too Much For Iowa Wesleyan Women

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Wesleyan women continued their dominance over non-conference opponents as the Prairie Wolves posted a 95-69 win over Iowa Wesleyan University on Monday night (Dec. 18) at Snyder Arena.
 
With the win, NWU improves to 8-2 overall and is undefeated at 8-0 in non-conference games.  In those eight victories, the Prairie Wolves have won by an average margin of 34.8 points.
 
Both teams started the game on fire playing to a 28-28 tie after one period.  Iowa Wesleyan made 6-9 from 3-point range in the first ten minutes and hit 6.7 percent overall, while NWU made 57.9 percent of their shots in the first half.
 
The Prairie Wolves were able to cool off the Tigers in the second quarter while keeping their shooting over 50 percent.  NWU outscored Iowa Wesleyan by ten points to take a 50-40 lead into the break.
 
A 3-pointer by Allie Massner from Iowa Wesleyan pulled the Tigers within three points just over two minutes into the second half.  From there, it was all NWU as they outscored the Tigers 19-3 the rest of the quarter to extend the lead to 18 points at the break.
 
NWU started the fourth quarter on a 12-0 run to get up by 30 points with seven minutes left in the game and complete a 31-3 run over a stretch of ten minutes.
 
Sophomore guard Caitlin Navratil had a near perfect offensive night to lead the Prairie Wolves attack.  Navratil was 10-11 from the field, 2-3 on 3-pointers and 2-2 at the free throw line to finish with a game-high 24 points.
 
Three other Prairie Wolves scored in double figures as NWU topped 90 points for the second straight game and fourth time this season.  Ann Schulte scored a season-high 15 points with seven steals and five assists to lead NWU in those two categories.  Addie Wetzel finished at 12 points and Macy Gustafson came off the bench to score 10 points in eight minutes.
 
Nebraska Wesleyan forced the Tigers into 26 turnovers, scoring 36 points off those turnovers.  Iowa Wesleyan ended the game shooting 52.0 percent from the field, making 12-27 3-point attempts.
 
Josie Zerrusen made four 3-pointers to lead IWU with 17 points, while Allie Massner had three 3-pointers and 13 points.
 
The Prairie Wolves will now have long layoff for the holidays as they don't play again until their final non-conference game on January 1 at Hardin-Simmons in Texas.
