Outside Shooting Lifts NWU Past Gallaudet 99-77

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Nebraska Wesleyan shot 50 percent from 3-point range making 18-36 attempts as the Prairie Wolves men's basketball team remained undefeated with a 99-77 victory over Gallaudet University on Sunday afternoon (Dec. 17) in Washington, D.C.
 
NWU moves to 9-0 on the season with the victory to open their trip to the nation's capital.  The Prairie Wolves will face Marymount University on Monday night in Arlington, Virginia.
 
As a team the Prairie Wolves shot an amazing 63.6 percent from the floor in the second half after leading by 16 points at halftime.  NWU made nine 3-pointers in each half making 9-16 in the second half.
 
Nebraska Wesleyan used a 11-0 run over a four minute stretch in the first half to get ahead by 21 points at 30-9.  The Bison were able to cut the lead down to 16 points at halftime. 
 
In the second half, Gallaudet (2-9) pulled within 10 points twice, the latest at the 10:59 mark.  Back-to-back 3-pointers from the Prairie Wolves ended any threat of the Bison getting any closer and NWU was able to close out the game.
 
Junior Cooper Cook led a group of four Prairie Wolves that reached double figures in scoring.  Cook finished with a game-high 24 points, hitting four 3-pointers.  Cook also had eight rebounds with five assists.
 
Deion Wells-Ross posted his fourth double-double of the year with 11 points and a game-high 16 rebounds to go along with five assists.
 
The other two NWU players to reach double figures in scoring came off the bench.  Patrick Sullivan scored a career-high 14 points, going 4-4 from 3-point range all in just five minutes of play.  Sullivan was 5-6 from the field but fouled out in five minutes of game time.  Jake Scheef also scored double figures  with 12 points  making 3-4 field goals and 2-3 on 3-pointers.
 
NWU finished the game with 32 assists on 37 made field goals.  Ryan Garver led the way with 10 assists. 
 
Gallaudet was led in scoring by Noah Valencia with 21 points, making 5-16 from 3-point range.
