Women Roll to 112-62 Win Over Grace in Home Opener

LINCOLN, Neb. --- For the first time this season the Nebraska Wesleyan women's basketball team got to debut their high flying full court pressure style in front of the home crowd as the Prairie Wolves women rolled to a 112-62 victory over Grace University on Wednesday night (Nov. 29) in the home opener at Snyder Arena.
 
NWU remains undefeated under first-year head coach Sam Dixon as the Prairie Wolves improve to 5-0 on the season.  The Prairie Wolves topped 100 points for the second time this season, the first time since 1990-91 that NWU has went over 100 points multiple times in a year.  They were just three points shy of tying the school record for points in a game.
 
The Prairie Wolves jumped out to a 28-18 lead at the end of the first quarter and they never allowed the Royals to get within single digits the rest of the way.  NWU extended the lead to 22 points at halftime with an 58-36 advantage going into the break.  NWU forced Grace into 17 turnovers in the first half.
 
Things didn't get better for Grace in the second half as the full court pressure was relentless forcing the Royals into nine more turnovers in the third period.  NWU shot 65.0 percent in the fourth quarter to outscore Grace 31-12 in the final 10 minutes.
 
Nebraska Wesleyan has now outscored their first five opponents by an average of 34.8 points per game.
 
NWU finished the game shooting 47.4 percent from the field with 11 made 3-pointers by nine different players.
 
The biggest advantage for Nebraska Wesleyan was on the glass where the Prairie Wolves had a 66-37 advantage in rebounding.  NWU pulled down 31 offensive rebounds, scoring 31 second chance points.
 
Four NWU players reached double figures in scoring led by Caitlin Navratil with 19 points.  Addie Wetzel posted yet another double-double with 15 points and an amazing 20 rebounds, including 11 offensive boards.
 
Morgan Nishida finished the game with 13 points and four assists, with Kate Schulte scoring 10 points with eight rebounds.  A total of 13 players scored in the game for NWU.
 
Karen Orozco led Grace with 16 points in the game.
 
Nebraska Wesleyan opens Iowa Conference play on Saturday when they host Simpson College at 2 pm.
