INDIANOLA, Iowa – Nebraska Wesleyan had their highest scoring output of the season on Wednesday night as the Prairie Wolves went on the road and rolled past Simpson College, 5-1, in Iowa Conference women's soccer action.
The Prairie Wolves dominated the entire match to earn their first IIAC victory of the season. NWU had 24 total shots with 14 on goal, compared to only five for the Storm.
Bella Carnazzo got the scoring started for the Prairie Wolves with a goal in the 27
th minute to put the Prairie Wolves ahead 1-0. Just before halftime NWU struck again as
Sierra Denny scored with less than three minutes remaining before the break. Nebraska Wesleyan carried the 2-0 lead into intermission.
Simpson cut NWU's lead in half right away in the second half as Dani Marquez scored in the 47
th minute. That would be as close as the Storm could get.
NWU would extend the lead back to two in the 53
rd minute when
Annie Platt scored off an assist from
Natalie Graves. The scoring continued with
Shannon Jerram getting into the action in the 66
th minute to make the score 4-1.
Late in the match the Prairie Wolves put the icing on the cake with
Kaitlyn Sullivan scoring in the 80
th minute from
Carah Criner. That gave NWU their fifth goal of the match which was their highest season total.
Nebraska Wesleyan improved to 4-6-1 overall and 1-2 in IIAC play while Simpson falls to 3-9 and remains winless in conference action at 0-3. The Prairie Wolves stay unbeaten on the season in matches where they score more than 1 goal.
NWU returns home this Saturday to face Wartburg College at 2 pm in Abel Stadium.
