LINCOLN – The Nebraska Wesleyan University volleyball team will be the No. 6 seed in the 2017 IIAC Postseason Volleyball Tournament that begins this week.
NWU will face the No. 3 seed, Buena Vista University, in the opening round of the tournament on Tuesday night (Oct. 31). The match between the Prairie Wolves and Beavers is set for a 7 pm start in Storm Lake, Iowa.
The winner of the NWU-Buena Vista match will face the No. 2 seed, Luther College, on Friday (Nov. 3) at 4 pm at the US Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The semifinals and championship match of the conference tournament are all held at the US Cellular Center for the second straight season. The championship match of the six-team tournament is set for Saturday (Nov. 4) at 3 pm.
An automatic bid to the NCAA III National Tournament is on the line as the winner of the IIAC Tournament receives the conference's automatic berth.
NWU finished the 2017 regular season with an 11-16 overall record and 3-5 mark in IIAC play to tie for sixth in the standings. Buena Vista is 20-9, 5-3 in IIAC and has won 10 straight matches. The Beavers won the first meeting between the two teams, 3-0, back on Sept. 14 in Storm Lake, Iowa in the IIAC Opener.
This marks the second straight season that NWU has qualified for the IIAC Postseason Volleyball tournament. Last season they were defeated in the opening round of the tournament to end their season.
