St. Louis, Mo. – Facing very tough competition, the Nebraska Wesleyan volleyball team was swept in a pair of matches on night one of the Baden Invite hosted by Washington University St. Louis. NWU lost the opening match, 3-0, to 10
th-ranked Millikin University, then lost the nightcap 3-0 to Transylvania University.
The Prairie Wolves fall to 11-15 overall and will play one more additional match in the Baden Invite on Saturday.
In the opening match, the Prairie Wolves found out why Millikin was ranked 10
th in NCAA III. Millikin swept past NWU in scores of 25-23, 25-6, 25-10.
NWU was held to a negative hitting percentage in the second and third sets and finished the match with a .011 hitting percentage. The Prairie Wolves had only 16 total kills in three sets, with 15 errors. Millikin had 44 total kills and hit .393 with seven total team blocks.
Olivia Schneider had a team-high four kills for the Prairie Wolves in the match.
Lizzie Saale had seven digs to lead the defense with
Kelsie Stovall dishing out eight assists.
Transylvania improved to 19-8 overall as they swept past the Prairie Wolves 25-22, 25-19, 25-13 in the second match of the night.
NWU had a better overall performance with 35 kills and a .159 hitting percentage.
Sarah Oldfather led the way with nine kills hitting .263.
Hannah Bellinghausen chipped in seven kills with three other players recording five kills.
Sidney Mell led NWU with 12 digs and
Anna Gottsch dished out 23 assists.
