NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Nebraska Wesleyan had a great day two of the Tiffany Robinson Memorial Volleyball Tournament at North Central College as the Prairie Wolves picked up a pair of much needed victories to finish the tournament with a 2-2 record.
NWU started Saturday with a 3-2 win over Trine University then closed the tournament with a 3-0 sweep over University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
Against Trine, NWU took the opening set 25-18 but then dropped the next two sets 25-22, 25-15. Needing to force a fifth set the Prairie Wolves won set four 25-17 then held on to win a thrilling fifth set 15-13.
In the fifth set, the two teams were tied at 8-8 when
Hannah Bellinghausen recorded a kill to start a string of four straight points.
Kierra Harder added a kill and two errors from Trine gave NWU the 12-8 advantage. Trine cut the lead to 12-11 but a service error stopped the run and Harder pounded out two kills for the game-winning points.
Harder led the team with 13 kills and 22 digs to post yet another double-double.
Karrie Sestak had a team-high 14.5 points as she recorded 11 kills and five block assists.
Kelsie Stovall dished out 29 assists in the match.
Nebraska Wesleyan had an easier time against UW-Oshkosh as they swept the Titans in scores of 25-23, 25-19, 27-25.
The Titans recorded more kills and had a higher hitting percentage in the match, but NWU was able to win in three close sets.
NWU trailed 16-10 in the opening set before starting to mount the comeback. The Prairie Wolves slowly chipped away and finally tied the set at 20-20 after two straight Titan errors. The Sestak twins teamed up for a block to give NWU the lead, then two more errors by Oshkosh gave NWU a 23-020 advantage.
Karrie Sestak ended the set with a kill and the 25-23 win.
The Prairie Wolves had to comeback in set two as well, but not after getting out to an early lead. NWU was ahead 15-9 when the Titans got on a roll and eventually led 17-16.

In the third set the Prairie Wolves had match point but an error allowed the Titans to tie it up at 24-24.
Cora Svoboda added a kill to set up another match point, but once again Oshkosh answered with a kill of their own. Svoboda put NWU ahead 26-25 and
Sarah Oldfather sealed the win with a kill.
Svobda had a team-high nine kills in the match to go along with five block assists.

Kierra Harder both had eight kills.
Lizzie Saale led the team with 15 digs and Stovall had a match-high 21 assists.
NWU returns to IIAC action in one week when they travel to Cedar Rapids, Iowa to face Coe College.
