CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – A goal by Coe College in the opening minutes of the match would be the only goal the entire match as the Kohawks shut out Nebraska Wesleyan University, 1-0, in IIAC women's soccer action on Tuesday night (Oct. 10) in Cedar Rapids.
Ashlyn Moos scored at the 5:15 mark to begin the match and that goal proved to be the game-winner as neither team would get on the board the rest of the way.
Nebraska Wesleyan drops their second straight IIAC match without scoring a goal as the Prairie Wolves fall to 4-8-1 overall and 1-4 in IIAC action. With the victory, Coe climbs up to second in the IIAC standings improving to 10-2-2 and 2-1-1 in conference play.
The Prairie Wolves had a few late chances with a shot by
Raissa Souza that sailed wide with less than six minutes remaining. As time continued to click away the Prairie Wolves had a corner kick opportunity with just under four minutes left. That eventually led to a shot on goal from
Annie Platt by the Kohawk made a save to secure the win.
Coe and Nebraska Wesleyan both had seven shots in the match, with the Prairie Wolves recording six on goal compared to five for Coe. The Prairie Wolves just couldn't convert any of the shots into goal as Coe had six saves.
NWU returns home on Saturday to host Central College in an IIAC match that is scheduled to start at 5 pm at Abel Stadium.
