FOREST CITY, Iowa – The Nebraska Wesleyan women's soccer team picked up their first victory of the season on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 4) as the Prairie Wolves went on the road and defeated Waldorf University, 3-1.
NWU (1-2) scored two goals within a minute of each other in the first half to take the early lead and they added another goal in the second half to seal the victory.
Katelin Blosser got the scoring started at the 20:04 mark as she got past the goalkeeper for the first goal of the match. Less than one minute later, the Prairie Wolves struck again as
Kaitlyn Sullivan nailed a shot from 25 yards out that found the back of the net to put NWU ahead 2-0.
Waldorf (1-4) cut the lead in half later in the first half as Brittney Thornton scored in the 29
th minute to make the score 2-1. That score would remain the same as the teams headed to halftime.
In the second half, NWU built onto their lead as the lead went to 3-1 on an OWN goal. That would be the final score giving the Prairie Wolves their first regular season victory in 2016.
NWU was by the far the more aggressive team as they had 25 shot attempts, compared to just nine for Waldorf.
Madi Francis recorded five saves in goal for Nebraska Wesleyan.
After a busy opening weekend, the Prairie Wolves will next be in action at Abel Stadium hosting Mount Marty on Saturday and Cardinal Stritch on Sunday.
