st-ranked Loras College defeated Nebraska Wesleyan 4-0 in the first Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's soccer match for the Prairie Wolves on Sunday (Sept. 25) at Abel Stadium in Lincoln.
The match was originally scheduled to be played on Saturday night, but was moved to Sunday morning due to several lightning delays during the NWU Homecoming football game.
Loras, ranked No. 21 in the NSCAA Top 25, scored the opening goal of the match in the 29
th minute as Madie Avery broke the 0-0 tie. The 1-0 score would hold up until halftime.
In the second half, Gretchen Schutz scored back-to-back goals for the Duhawks within five minutes of each other as they extended the lead to 3-0. Loras capped the match with one final goal in the 71
st minute as Sydney Wright scored to make it 4-0.
The Duhawks had 14 total shots in the match, compared to six for the Prairie Wolves. Loras moves to 5-2 overall, while NWU falls to 4-6.
